Divorce Journalist Ilyssa Panitz interviewed SFLG’s Debra Schoenberg about why celebrities and other high net-worth individuals would retain a private judge in a custody dispute.
Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie remain embroiled in a highly contentious custody battle for five of their six minor children. Now their fight is focused on the impartiality of a private judge. SFLG’s Debra Schoenberg offered legal insight to Authority Magazine.
“There are several compelling reasons to engage a private judge for a family law case. The most common, particularly for couples involved in high-profile or high-asset divorces, is that choosing an experienced private judge can help keep many personal and financial details of the divorce out of the public record. Technically, anyone can hire a private judge for their family law case, but there are many factors to consider in practice.”
